#ImamsForShe Democratic Republic of the Congo

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), #ImamsForShe has been operating with the partnership of AICNDH since 2019, when the initiative spread from Burundi to two neighboring countries - Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In the few years since the expansion, #ClubsForShe overnight camps, education workshops for women and girls, and information workshops for Imams and other religious leaders have been held to promote the mission of #ImamsForShe across the DRC.

 

#ImamsForShe Rwanda

In Rwanda, #ImamsForShe has been operating with the partnership of AICNDH since 2019, when the initiative spread from Burundi to two neighboring countries - Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In the few years since the expansion, #ClubsForShe overnight camps, education workshops for women and girls, and information workshops for Imams and other religious leaders have been held to promote the mission of #ImamsForShe.

#ImamsForShe in Burundi

In Burundi, #ImamsForShe has been operating with the partnership of AICNDH since 2015. What began as an intellectual campaign has now become a fully-blown grassroots initiative, with a radio show that reaches nearly 9.6 million listeners weekly, educational camps for girls and young women, and entrepreneurship training for young women.

#ImamsForShe in Tunisia

#ImamsForShe in Tunisia is very much linked to capacity building: how can we train members of civil society to spread #ImamsForShe’s message? For that reason, #ImamsForShe has mainly consisted of workshops -- three to be exact -- which are based on a curriculum that MPV has largely written. Up until now, we’ve trained 76 activists.

Spotlight: United Nations

MPV takes advantage of the UN’s capacity to bring many people together to shed light on important and too-often ignored issues, such as the use and abuse of religion with respect to women’s rights. It was for this reason that MPV launched #ImamsForShe at the U.N. and continues to host panel events discussing the results and impacts of its work. What follows is a summary of the events held at the U.N. in both New York and Geneva.

#UlamaBersamaWanita

#ImamsForShe expanded to Malaysia in 2017, with the work of MPV’s sister organization Komuniti Muslim Universal (KMU), taking on the name #UlamaBersamaWanita. #UlamaBersamaWanita mainly works through educational campaigns using infographics and other media.
