Inclusive Islam Curriculums

At MPV, we believe that human rights abuses will continue unabated unless societies themselves are inculcated in the values of inclusivity, egalitarianism, and justice. We recognize that the most effective way to inculcate these values into societies is to start with educating children on both universal human rights values and the Quranic teachings that substantiate these values. Inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, we collaborated with partners in the U.S. and in Burundi to develop two set of curriculums that are specific to these communities utilizing teaching methods that encompass identity, social, emotional, language, aesthetic, and spiritual development, as well as the values of service to others. The Inclusive Islam Curriculums are designed to make teaching easy for parents, teachers, and educators within these communities. We invite you to learn more below and to also reach out for partnership or funding opportunities.

The Inclusive Islam Curriculum (The west)

The Inclusive Islam Curriculum is primarily designed for Muslim children in the West, in democratic societies, that aims to help children create a Muslim identity rooted in human rights and social justice, which at the heart of that is to help children learn empathy and philanthropy.

For liberal and progressive minded Muslim parents, and for those in mixed-faith marriages, a children’s curriculum that inculcates human rights values and respect for all religions, women, sexual minorities, and the environment and one that incorporates evidence based practices in early childhood education is finally here.

The Inclusive Religious curriculum (burundi)

Inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the Inclusive Religious Curriculum covers a variety of teachings, including freedom of religion, girls and women's rights, family planning, care for animals and environmental protection. Throughout the book, we share these teachings in a number of different forms including comics, conversations, games, rhetoric, and with references to the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of Hadith.

Divided into three sections based on three main themes - women’s rights, religious diveristy and tolerance, and environmental protection - the goal of this book is to change attitudes, habits, and behaviors within the Muslim community in Burundi to encapsulate the universality and compassionate teachings of Islam.
