zainab tanvir
Zainab Tanvir is an educator, labor unionist, and community activist. She was born in Lahore, Pakistan where she lived until her family immigrated to Brooklyn when she was three years old. Zainab believes that her life's purpose is the service of others. She firmly believes in equity, justice, and freedom for all people regardless of identity. Currently she is a professor at Rutgers University in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, where she also works closely with the faculty union to improve working conditions.
Zainab also has the pleasure of being the co-director of the New York chapter of Muslims for Progressive Values, a faith-based human rights nonprofit organization. Most recently, she was asked to sit on the board of The Center for the Study of White American Culture, an anti-racism nonprofit organization. She hopes that in every aspect of her work she can make a positive impact on her community.
