Mosaic

was organized as a thought provoking presentation of song, dance, poetry, spoken words and comedy performed by progressive Muslim artists. The performances, by both male and female artists, highlighted a collage of artistic expressions inspired by the lifestyles and personal beliefs of this diverse assortment of artists.


 
 

Mosaic Featured

  • Sababa La Zeez Dance Group with Shaunti & Nar performing two stylized Middle Eastern dances: "Veils of al-Mutanabi" and the "Wing Dance".

  • Saleem performing one of his spoken word pieces, “I am Coming for America”, from his play "Getting into my Skin", along with two traditional Middle Eastern dances, one classical and the other infused with Spanish and flamenco influences.

  • Meymona Hussein-Cattan reciting poems reflecting her life and thoughts as a progressive Muslim woman from Eriteria.

  • Hussein and Natalie performing an interpretive dance and a spoken word Persian poem in English with a modern twist.

  • Ani Zonneveld singing her expression of Islam in a western musical context in English.

  • Maurice Saba and his musicians and Saleem performing a collection of Lebanese, Palestinian, and Egyptian songs.

  • Comedian Mona Shaikh sharing bitingly hilarious commentary about the global Muslim community and the farce of the patriarchy.
