Anti-Racism and Islam Workshop - Part 2
Muslims for Progressive Values is excited to bring to our community the Progressive Islam Curriculum Live Workshop with Kendra Cordova, educator, MPV Board Member, and the brilliant mind behind our Youtube Series, MPV with Kendra.
The 15th (and final!) workshop in this online series will cover Lessons 4 and 5 of Unit 8 of the Progressive Islam Curriculum, "Anti-Racism and Islam", to examine the presence of slavery in early Muslim communities and the stance that the Qur’an and the Hadith both take on the practice of slavery. The workshop will conclude with a review of how racism manifested in the early Muslim societies, despite the Qur’an’s condemnation of racism and prejudice and how various tools featured previously in the curriculum can help us to understand how to critique racism in our communities, without falling into an Orientalist critique.
