PROGRESSIVE ISLAM CURRICULUM

Why A progressive islam curriculum?

For over a decade, Muslims for Progressive Values has worked to return the American and global Muslim community to one that honors the original traditions of Islam, traditions that uphold human rights and social justice for all. Recognizing that the only way to return to a path that is rooted in social justice, compassion, and pluralism, we have sought to produce educational resources for the general public to learn from. It is our belief that progressive interpretations of Islam should be as accessible as possible because for far too long, these interpretations have remained in scholarly and theological fields.

The Progressive Islam Curriculum is a culmination of MPV’s effort to increase accessibility of these progressive interpretations so that the general Muslim population has the tools to understand and practice the truly traditional form of Islam. It is our hope that by making scholarly academic interpretations more accessible, generations of Muslims and non-Muslims can utilize the human rights framing of Islam toward living and advocating for a more just world.

how is the curriculum structured?

The Progressive Islam Curriculum consists of 8 different units, each which cover a variety of topics from “What is Islam?” to “Freedom of Religion and Belief in Islam”. Each unit is made up of a unit syllabus, core content, and scholarly insights, or mini lectures from our scholarly partners on the topic of the unit. The syllabus and core content will be available to download right here on our website and the mini lectures will be available to watch on our Youtube channel.
