MPV Stands in Solidarity with the Muslim Canadian Congress

Muslims for Progressive Values condemns in the strongest terms death threats that have been received by the Muslim Canadian Congress. We stand in solidarity with the MCC, and in particular with Farzana Hasan-Shahid and Tarek Fatah who were named in a recent phone message threatening them with slaughter. (To hear the message and read coverage click here.)

We uphold the principles of freedom of conscience and freedom of speech which are enshrined not only in the Canadian Charter and the American Constitution, but in the Qur’an. Violence, intimidation, and death threats have no place in Islam, secular society, or any ethical approach to the world. Neither does vigilante style “justice.”

We pray God and the Canadian police forces protect MCC members, especially Tarek and Farzana. All of us who are committed to pluralism, to freedom of speech and conscience, and to living in a peaceful and humane society stand beside them today.
